How Should a Baseball Hat Fit? Four Checks Before You Buy
Designed in Scottsdale, Arizona
Four checks. One good hat.
A baseball hat fits when the crown sits one finger above your brows, the band is snug without a red line, and the brim points where you want shade. Check those three, then the closure.

Start with where the crown sits
Pull the hat on with both hands and look in a mirror. The front of the crown should land about one finger width above your eyebrows. Any lower and the hat blocks your view. Any higher and it rides back on your head and leaves your forehead in the sun.
Crown height matters here. The Ryder and Eden both have a slightly taller crown, so they sit a touch higher on the head than a low profile cap.

A 6 panel baseball cap with a taller crown. Water resistant, breathable, one size fits most.

Feel the sweatband
The band is where fit is won or lost. It should sit flat across your forehead, touching everywhere, with no gap at the center and no pinch at the sides. Wear it for ten minutes. If you see a red line, go up a notch on the closure.
In Arizona the band also handles sweat. Every hat below has a Stay-dri sweatband, and the Brooks and Nico use an integrated cotton one. That keeps moisture off your brow when you are walking a course or a trail.
Pick the bill for the sun
A curved bill wraps your face and blocks more side light. A flat retro bill sits a little higher and looks more casual. Neither is wrong. Pick the one that matches how you use the hat.
Walking 18 holes or hiking at noon, go curved and structured, like the Jace with its curved brim. Running errands or pairing with a hoodie, the soft Nico corduroy and the Brooks rope hat read relaxed. Set the closure last
Most PILLAR hats are one size fits most. The Brooks, Nico and Jace use a classic snapback, so you set the fit yourself. Start at the loosest setting, tighten one step at a time, and stop when the band is snug and a finger still slides underneath.
Measure if you are unsure. Run a soft tape around your head just above the eyebrows and over the top of the ears, then compare it to how the hat sits.

Frequently Asked Questions
How tight should a baseball hat be?
Snug enough to stay put in wind, loose enough that you can slide one finger under the band. If it leaves a red line on your forehead after ten minutes, it is too tight.
Where should the brim sit on my head?
The front of the crown should sit about one finger width above your eyebrows. Lower than that and it blocks your view. Higher and it stops shading your face.
What does one size fits most mean?
The hat adjusts to cover a typical range of head sizes, usually through a snapback or similar closure. Measure your head just above your eyebrows and ears, then adjust until it is snug.
Should a hat bill be flat or curved?
It is a style choice, but it changes shade. A curved bill wraps the face and blocks more side sun. A flat bill gives a retro look and sits a little higher on the forehead.
Do I need a different hat for Arizona sun?
Look for a breathable fabric and a sweatband that handles moisture. The Ryder and Eden are breathable and water resistant, and both use Stay-dri sweatband technology.
